Neuropsychological assessments
With an MA Neuropsychology degree from UCT and experience at Groote Schuur Hospital, Red Cross Children’s Hospital, and 2 Military Hospital in the neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, and pediatric wards, I have specialised experience in neuropsychology.
In a neuropsychological assessment, I use clinical observations, as well as formal neuropsychological testing, to examine the cognitive consequences of severe mental illness, brain damage, or brain disease. A neuropsychological assessment provides valuable information to assist with understanding a diagnosis and the extent and effect of injury/illness, the planning and monitoring of rehabilitation, as well as for medico-legal matters such as Road Accident Fund claims or curatorship. I offer these assessments to inpatients and outpatients, for children, adolescents, and adults. I provide assessments for a broad range of conditions, including the following:
-
Traumatic brain injury
-
Dementia - e.g. Alzheimers, Vascular, Frontotemporal
-
Other degenerative diseases - e.g. Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease
-
Epilepsy
-
Substance use
-
General psychiatric conditions
-
Neurodevelopmental problems
